Exactly what my malignant covert narc is doing now. I used to give her thousands of dollars every month until i found her cheating and lying so much. Now she is slowly fishing me in by asking for just $10 and $20 here and there to bait me back in. No thanks.

Yes, and coincidentally, all the narcissists I have met romantically, love fishing as a sport, so that’s their thing, fishing people and fish. I’ve learned my lesson, thanks to Dr. Ramani❤

I found it so odd when the narcissist from my past emailed my middle school email address that I used for junk mail a couple of years ago after having been broken up for a few years. They talked about how well they were doing and said something along the lines of “I understand if you don’t write back.” I remember realizing how blatant they were and feeling embarrassed for falling for it when they used to throw their line out for the years we were together. Then I remembered – hindsight’s 20/20. I was young, I was naive, and they took advantage of my tenderheartedness. I blocked them and went on with my day, grateful for the psychology degree that opened my eyes and the strength I had to remove them from my life.
My ex always finishes with “no offence taken if you don’t reply”.
Cool analogy about the cod in the end by the prof 🙏. I have fallen for this fish texts/emails and calls many times from few people whom i have recently identified to be narcissists and extra careful with them. This particular incident happened few months ago while i was still learning about narcissism that opened my eyes to this behavior. If you have a friend/relative you consider close and they just send you random texts to collect information from you but they seem to be having lengthy exchanges with other people just remember you are just being used for a purpose, there is no relationship there. ignore them completely.

You are right, great acumen and keen discernment. That saying, in my belief, is designed for those who hope but know it is useless. Still, they cling to their hopes, which will remain unanswered by the lot, never to be and never to materialize. Fools and dreamers live (but mostly die) by that adage. Dreaming is fine, but if there are no steps taken to make the dream a reality, it is just an illusion. thank you for that very smart line. Stay well.
I think the same thing but I use the spider analogy. Everywhere they go they spread their web hoping to catch people, new and old, into their trap. It’s a slow long death.

Years ago when I was still crazy about him, I’d get this message around 7-8pm on a Saturday night…..”I’m free this evening and actually not tired. Would you like some company”? And if course the answer was always “yes” and I’d be on seventh heaven. He never used my name. I began to imagine him sitting at home bored and sending the same message to several women and waiting for the first to respond. After that I just kept seeing more and more of the reality of this crazy situation ship and just quietly walked away. Every so often I get a fishing line cast in my direction but I just keep imagining how many ‘non catchers’ he’s had that day.
