If a man is so threatened by my independence that I have to make myself small in the places HE wants to give just so he can feel big (rather than listening to the needs I actually communicate– where his effort would do real good), he’s the kind of poor partner whose ego I’d have to babysit constantly. No thanks.
I don’t see it that way. He’s talking about relationship. It almost sounds like to me at the end there you were asking for the same thing that you are criticizing your misunderstanding of what he was saying
it’s not about making yourself small, it’s allowing him to support you in meaningful ways, because you are communicating those needs to him 🙂
