An Attorney is NOT a Plan! Take Control of Your Divorce

I see it all the time—people escaping toxic, controlling, or abusive marriages thinking that hiring an attorney is the finish line. They finally build up the courage, push through their fears, and make the decision to leave. And then? They believe they can sit back, relax, and let the attorney handle everything.

But here's the truth—an attorney is NOT a plan. You need your own strategy. You need to gather information, organize documents, and emotionally prepare yourself for the battle ahead. You need to safeguard your assets, secure your private communications, and have a trusted support system.

The more you do now, the more you empower yourself—and the more you save in legal fees! You are the hero of your own story, and I’m here to help you take charge of your divorce process.

Great advice! Getting as much information about money/bills = self care.

Thank you for your advice, I agree, I am trying to do as much of the work myself as possible so that I do not have to hire a lawyer. I may have to use the lawyer though to get a settlement because my soon to be ex is being extremely difficult about all this. he is hiding numbers through his business that he established in the marriage so I am having to play detective…..it’s been almost six months since I filed and he finally moved out yesterday!
