Expectations- yes, commitment but also expectations are sooooooo many other things. Where are we going to live in the future? (Country,, mountains, beach, etc) Sunday dinners with family or is that a hell no for one of the people in the relationship, kids or no kids (a lot of my clients are younger so that is important to discuss early) marriage or no marriage? Live together or separately? How do we handle money?

A philosopher and a jock, or an artist and a traveler, or a worker and drifter may have chemistry but their lifestyles can be incompatible. Parents and siblings can project incompatible interests onto eachother too. And these projections create insecurities and invalidation. I like when you said the Rabbi told his lady friend that he can handle her. That is important and ideal. How many stoic men can’t handle an emotional outburst from a needing woman? They aren’t equipped to reassure her.
