My father never played with me in my life, not once, no sport, no hide and seek, no games nothing. When I was 15 I said, dad, you never ever played with me ever, come on, Ill whoop your butt in Virtua Fighter, 2 rounds, will take 1 minute, and I forgive you all these years. He mocked me and laughed at me, and didnt play 🙂
Long story short, im 43 now. I forgave him everything, Im in constant touch with him, showing him love and understanding, never wanting anything in return. Life is so much better that way 🙂

I tested this behaviour on my narc mother: she didnt care and wasnt there in any form for me when my first long time girlfriend was golddigger, when I lost a step-daughter after 9years, when I had health problems for 20years or when my life was in danger of ending… she didnt care for any of it and just tried to manipulate me and break me into servitude… it is crazy how they just WONT be human like…
Thanks, I recently stopped fawning for a co worker. That makes me feel like I’m the one wanting to just go and start over, but I’m standing my darn ground. I’m not abandoning my post because it got challenging.

This just made me think about how I am made to feel guilty to show up and do all the work and any narcissist in my life just walks away and abandons the situation. The enablers give them grace and excuses for not showing up while guilt tripping me into doing the work that should have been handled by the narcissist. I n some situation, like at work, I had no choice but to pick up the slack.

That’s one area where the toxic person in my life doesn’t quite fit the profile. They actually show up best at crisis points – so well that it lures me into thinking they’ve changed. Nope. When things return to normal, they go back to self-absorption.

Same here. He shows up to take control cos controlling is what he loves to do most. Sometimes controlling a chaotic situation is helpful/necessary so it’s not all bad but the moment I let my guard down with him- it’s not long before I regret it.
This is regarding a family relationship, not a romantic one.
Disappeared when my mum was dying. Started an affair at work and told me he was leaving (after 15 years and 2 children), while my mum was fighting cancer. Btw after I never left him for years of his drinking… helping him recover from alcoholism (which he did). Ramani, you saved my life. You made me understand and heal. Thx ❤.
