Dating Apps Should Show You How Many People Your Filters Are Eliminating πŸ‘€

Imagine Hinge showing a live counter as you adjust preferences:

Your current dating pool: ~18,400 people
Age 30–45 β†’ 8,200
Within 10 miles β†’ 2,900
5'10"+ β†’ 1,050
Wants children β†’ 430
College educated β†’ 190
Non-smoker β†’ 142
Politically compatible β†’ 61
You’re currently viewing ~0.3% of your available dating pool.

And then a little prompt like:
Want more options?
Increasing your distance from 10 β†’ 20 miles would add approximately 217 people.

That last part could be extremely valuable. Instead of telling someone, β€œYour standards are too high,” the app simply gives them information about the mathematical consequence of each filter.

It would also fit perfectly with my MegaDating philosophy because the message becomes: you can absolutely have preferencesβ€”just understand what each preference does to the size of your pool.
