How Do You Know If You’re Really Divorcing a Narcissist? 3 Key Signs
How do I know if I'm really divorcing a narcissist? This is one of the questions I'm asked more than almost any other.
Divorce can bring out anger, defensiveness, and difficult behavior in even good people. So how do you tell the difference between someone who is simply struggling through a painful divorce and someone who is using manipulation and control as a long-term strategy?
In this video, I explain three important differences I consistently see in narcissistic divorce:
Conflict vs. control
Accountability vs. blame and rewriting history
How someone responds when you set boundaries
I also explain why focusing on individual incidents can keep you confused when what really matters is the pattern over time.
After my own six-year divorce, I learned that understanding exactly why my ex behaved the way he did wasn't nearly as important as understanding what his behavior was doing to me. That realization changed everything.
You don't need to spend years trying to prove whether someone is officially a narcissist. The more important questions are: Is this relationship dynamic healthy? Do I feel emotionally safe? Am I constantly questioning myself? Do I feel like I have to manage another adult's emotions?
If you're navigating a high-conflict divorce with someone who uses manipulation, control, or emotional instability, this video will help you start recognizing the patterns and responding strategically instead of emotionally.
