My ex is the perfect blend of both covert and vulnerable.
Nothing bothers them than indifference, setting firm boundaries, ignoring their demands, and holding them accountable.
Amen to that!
But they usually can’t be held accountable; we’re the ones who are instead left with the accountability, loss of friends, home, family, reputation, etc.
Their lack of accountability and inability to regulate used to send me down the rabbit hole and lead me to doubt my perceptions. I used to say if I said the sky was blue but you said no, it is green, I would never agree with you but I would spend a heck of a lot of time thinking about it.
They don’t like witnesses.
Explain? I’m curious on the topic.
@Montgomery2024 In public, they may show nothing and be perfectly pleasant. Behind closed doors – an emotional vampire. My mother would tell me: what I say to you you shouldn’t tell your husband or your friends (i.e. my witnesses).

Ain’t nothing “vulnerable” about covert narcs. A regular “grandiose” narc will insult you to your face. A covert narc will stab you in the back.
35 years of being blamed and minimized is almost over. I have missions to accomplish.. lives to change.peace
Their lack of self awareness makes it impossible to have a meaningful relationship with a narcissist.

Finally I got it! My x friend was 100 % covert . I thought she was covert vulnerable, nope! I believe I have missed the bullet of the vulnerable narcissist , but don’t say it out loud the devil may be listening.. Ty Dr Ramani !
covert basically can be summarised with “dark” to me. Difficult to spot/ insidious/ not defined/creepy. their behaviour is depressive, an oppressive cloud of despair and isolation that gets you without you even noticing it, just like poison.
The covert narcissist is a SNAKE
One of my sisters is a covert narcissist and I used to have a photo of a coiled snake next to her name in my phone!

Thank you for clarifying the covert aspects of all narcissists. I want to say that during the love bombing phase, some narcissists seem hardly triggered at all. And yet later, the same kinds of input once “laughed off” become very triggering. Then the gaslighting, the false allegations, threats, intimidation, and vindictive discarding. And yes the cycles become shorter and shorter
