Divorced Dads: Stop Parenting Like You’re Married
Divorced dads cannot keep parenting exactly like married dads. Parenting after divorce requires a different approach, especially if you want a stronger relationship with your children.
Data from the QoL SALAD Study found that 58% of fathers separated for at least one year said their relationship with their children became somewhat or significantly stronger. But the fathers who moved forward after divorce were far more likely to report improvement than the men who remained emotionally stuck.
In this video, I explain the difference between child-centered parenting and father-centered parenting. Father-centered parenting does not mean making everything about the dad. It means bringing your children into your actual life: cooking, working out, shopping, fixing things, handling responsibilities and experiencing the world together.
Your children do not only need activities, entertainment and rides to soccer practice. They need to see how a man lives, handles adversity, gets rejected, solves problems and moves forward.
