When I got married, my husband didn’t show much interest in me, but I felt that he’d love me more and more as he got to know me and as time went on. I thought he’d be a great husband – we belonged to the same church and he was friendly and outgoing with everyone – the kind of guy I wanted to marry. When he asked me to marry him, I thought my dreams were coming true and I said yes! But I soon learned that he didn’t seem to care much about me and that there was no glue holding us together.
He thought all he had to do to make a marriage work was to have sex. We ended up having several kids, but this marriage ended in divorce. I now know that there’s a lot to experience and think about before getting married. It’s so good that you’re teaching these things. Young people need to know them. I never did, and I paid the price. One important thing I learned was that he needs to show you before marriage how much he loves you. He needs to invest in you, and sadly that was missing in our relationship.
