I have no business teaching this one from a distance, so let me be honest first. I'm the over-giver.
That's been my default since I was young โ and if you'd asked me why at the time, I'd have said something noble about generosity. The truth is simpler. I didn't believe I was enough on my own. So I gave more than was asked, more than was healthy, more than I had. I thought that was the rent.
And I didn't invent it. I grew up watching a woman do it.
But before anything else, ladies: over-giving is not weakness. It comes from love, and for a lot of you it came from a season where you genuinely had to carry everything or the whole thing fell down. It worked. That's the part nobody tells you.
There's just a cost he'll never mention โ and in this video I'm walking you through eight things he notices while you're paying it.
Whether you're the one who handles everything, the one who can never quite receive, or the one wondering why he stopped offering โ this is what's happening on his side of it.
โผ IN THIS VIDEO โผ
โ Why a man commits to the woman he's already good enough for
โ What happens the third time he offers and you say "I've got it"
โ Why he genuinely doesn't know what you want (and why that's not his fault)
โ The real reason the chase ended โ and it isn't that you were too easy
โ Why his guilt looks exactly like him losing interest
โ What the people around you are learning from watching what it costs you
โ The one small thing that gives him everything back
โ What he actually wanted the whole time
If you've been searching for why he stopped trying, over-functioning in relationships, why men pull away, or how to stop over-giving โ this is the insider answer.

So if I ask for things and he doesnโt respond by doingโฆ What does that mean? I think some men donโt mind being useless. But that doesnโt mean theyโre being faithful either so I donโt know.
I had one like that! Useless!
Thanks for another great video Mat!
You’re so welcome, I’m really glad you enjoyed it!
Point 5 is the one that starts arguments down here โ that when he goes quiet after you’ve been carrying everything, it isn’t him losing I interest. It’s a man hiding from a bill he doesn’t know how to pay. ๐ค
Tell me honestly: have you ever given more to close a distance, and watched it get wider? ๐ I read every single comment.

Thanks for sharing your experience with over giving. I had a different term for that raising my three daughters and called it โ donโt play the martyrโ. I was treated as a servant as a child to meet my motherโs needs. I raised my daughters differently and they all have healthy marriages that are complimentary in mutual respect.
Thatโs such a powerful lesson to pass down; what do you think was the most important thing you modeled for them to help build that mutual respect?
I have learned so much these past few years from both you and other relationship coaches. There is much more available in regards to relationships now than 20 years ago when I got married. I have told my girls that you are mandatory listening when they get old enough to start getting in relationships. Thank you.
That is such a kind compliment, and Iโm honored that youโd share my work with your daughters!
I really needed to hear this.. thank you so much!
You are so welcome! What about the video helped you? ๐๐
Thank you ๐๐ผ this was so insightful I really needed to hear this itโs given me pointers about how to handle things, so helpful ๐
YES so glad it is helping you handle things – let me know if you have any questions on how to apply them to your situation ๐๐
This is frustrating because men will often say they donโt feel appreciated or they want help, then when you show up to help make life easier now youโre being told youโre over functioning, giving too much and now thatโs why heโs they pull away.
That’s my mom too. That poor woman how she suffered and ended up with cancer and suffered. They took out a lung and 4 ribs. Made it through chemo and radiation and still died. So much love for my mom.
I learned to not make 2 separate meals for dinner. If he doesn’t like it, eat anything else. No love like a mom’s love. Thanks for sharing your story it helped me alot
@kathleenscreations3976 I am so sorry๐ for your loss…Revelation 21:4: “..he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more. Neither mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” You will see your mom again, in the resurrection, and she will be healthy and happy. Sending you love and hugs.๐ซ๐๐๐น
Thank you sharing so vulnerably your momma
Sounds like she was a total powerhouse woman and loved you deeply!
Thanks for saying I can stop as soon as the emergency ( necessities) change. My mom was exactly like yours with 5 kids, 4 boys and a girl ๐ฎ
I’m just starting a new relationship and I have been an overgiver my whole life๐ข but it gives me so much joy!
But I am going to do alot less. Now that I understand how a MAN FEELS
THANKYOU FOR SHARING YOUR STORIES

You are so welcome!
Questions at the endโฆI was codependent with a narcissist husband who isolated me from family for 18 years, due to childhood emotional neglect I just kept abandoning myself but even more. Got out 2 years ago. Started dating 8 months ago. Online dating sucks but each time a learn more about myself.
I met a guy that sparks flew for both of us, still do for me. We only ever hung out at his house, in his history he has been private, reclusive and a creature of habit/very set routine. When we were together and conversing he would ask me what I wanted. I know he really wanted to make me happy. I just didnโt understand what he was asking me!!!! Still dont!!! What was he asking me??? I became anxious and mothering he became avoidant after that, He told me that he only wanted friends with benefits. I said no but changed my mind later. I struggled with that because I feel love for him. I asked him why he friend zoned me. He said he didnโt really know how it happened. Please answer previous questions if you can. Thank you. Love the video!!!!
Thank you for this video. I discovered how to fix some of my problems that can affect my relationship in the future. It’s true that I had some trauma as a child, and that’s why I’m not very communicative, and I try to do things on my own even when I can’t do them. I’ll try to be more open with my man. He’s a blessing that came in my life๐
I’ve been a bit sneaky with my giving… Since we worked at the same place (me inside a greenhouse and he as one of two work leaders for another group) for over two years, and I had other coworkers I really liked, including his, I made Christmas bags for everyone. Or ‘eatable Christmas cards’ as I named them. And, when I left for another work, I made little gifts for everyone. Sneaky, right? ๐ But, I’m an over giver and I have to check myself… I’m giving to cheer him up, to care for him, to give him reminders that I exist (not proud of that one…), and to show him he matters to me. Small things… but still.
Thank you for these 8 things. I’ll remember this for the future, and give him a chance to give back, although he does already, so I don’t scare him off before we get started for real.
