Does your culture protect the NARCISSIST?
What happens when a narcissistic person is not just protected by one enabler, but by an entire family or cultural system? For many survivors, naming the abuse can feel like betraying the family, the community, or the culture itself. In this video, we’ll explore why that pressure can make narcissistic relationships even harder to escape.

My relatives celebrate the narcissist women in our family, while bullying excluding and punishing anyone who defends themselves against them.
I haven’t been back to see my family since I left in 2019..Sister says she wants her sister (me) back. She’s one of the ones I left, and after her second betrayal I quit speaking to her altogether. Our cousin is the family and town gossip even though he’s a guy, and they’re really close NOW.
Are we related?
😅
My so-called family was just the opposite, what do you want me to do about it, or when you’re 18 you’re on your own that’s it but then that didn’t apply to my brothers
same
Many of them pretend to be very religious, aware of how to present themselves to people by keeping their family image intact.
It’s the “pretend thing” that gets SO INTERNALIZED!!! 😵
Wow. The PRESSURE of the collectivist mindset PLUS the pride of it ever being judged. ❤
Sending healing to all narcissist abuse survivors……..
God loves u,, God understand u❤
Impeccable timing, as usual… I’m currently experiencing this within the Greek Orthodox community. My friend and her parents told me yesterday that my problem as a human being is that I don’t shut up! Long story short, I’ve become controversial locally and my so-called support system is either burying their heads in the sand or giving unsolicited lectures to blame me for my life falling apart. I challenged a priest and several other people who were mistreating me.
Collectivism, Induvidualism, capitalism, socialism, all the isms, the only thing that ever matters is the NARCISSISM…. Thank you so so much, You are a life-saver!!!!❤👍❤👍❤
I grew up Mormon. There are a lot of narcissistic people in that religion. This is spot on
They are sick !
I am going through this culture abuse now. I have blocked my all family. My Dad used to be a shepherd in church but he is been lying his all life and me pointing it out, my entire family just turned against me and I am glad I’ve blocked them all as i lost my identity because of. I thank God for showing me the truth about my family because i was just a scapegoat to this horrible family.
YES. Family. Friends. Our little corner of society fawns over those that think they should be everything to everyone and challenged by no one.
I’ve seen so many collectivistic systems within the individualistic US culture
My culture, my community, my family, my neighbors.
Omg! I wondered about this! I was married to a man from India for 40 years when he divorced me and dumped our son. I always knew something was wrong, there was always an undercurrent that I couldn’t put my finger on. I blamed myself. I now know he and his family were the biggest narcissists. He lied, manipulated, deceived, cheated, abused and stole from me. Stalked and harrassed my son. I can’t tell you how much hell he has put me and my son through! It is pure evil!
I can now trace the scapegoats. My aunt was the scapegoat in my mother’s generation, I was the scapegoat in my generation and my nephew was the scapegoat in his generation. The expectation (unspoken) was that it is the duty of the scapegoat to keep the wheels on the system. I could have won the Nobel prize and my family would still see me as the loser, waiting for me to fail so they could say “Yea see, I was right.”
Funny thing they scapegoat you till you escape them. And then their system starts to crumble down unless they find a new scapegoat
My mother threw an all day fit, obvious to all, on the day of my wedding, because I had married outside her Catholic Church. It was all about her pride being hurt. She apologized to me, about that day, some years later, on the day my father had just died. I was told by a friend that the timing of the apology seemed to be a very transactional thing. She and my father had both been very brutal and violent narcissists.
My mother made my first marriage a living hell because of her Catholicism, as well. This, by the way, was a woman who never went to R.C. Mass in the last 30 years of her life. Make that make sense. 🙄
I come from a British Pakistani culture, the Pakistani aspect of me has seen first hand how the South Asian community protects narcissistic people and behaviour in order to maintain control over others. So many men and women are subjected to the whole “what will people say” rhetoric, which stops them from leaving abusive households.
I’m a part of a sub culture that has an extremely low tolerance for one’s individual interpretation of values. And I know and have known not only narcissists but psychopaths who have thrived and even have been looked up to for outrageous things they have said and done. And sometimes still are passing as normal just because they know how hit the right notes when it counts.
I’m talking about genuinely cruel people who are seen as good people because they are politically correct. And if you speak truthfully about some of these narcissists you will feel the rage.
this. This. THIS! This is how abuse can be justified by saying, “it’s just part of the culture.”
Uh, what about your family? “Oh no, we don’t need to do that.”
This is a true mirror for what’s happening globally. Ego before community.
Yeah it’s all collectivistic. Western culture too. Just on larger scale. They follow narcissistic leaders . They do what they’re told. Those who disagree or deviate get in trouble
I find that these close cult-like families almost always have a narcissist at its center
